On a recent trip to Rome, Italy with the Papal Foundation, Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and the foundation’s group met with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Archbishop Aquila is on the board of the Papal Foundation, which raises money to support the Church’s needs. Since its inception in 1988, The Papal Foundation and its Stewards of Saint Peter have allocated $200 million in grants and scholarships worldwide to more than 2000 projects selected by Popes Francis, Benedict XVI and John Paul II.
While in Rome, the archbishop also attended the annual fundraiser for the Pontifical North American College, where the Archdiocese of Denver currently has one seminarian studying. Since the college’s founding, it has prepared thousands of American seminarians to serve as priests in the United States. Not only have these men been enriched personally by the Roman experience, but they have also instilled in the people they serve a unique understanding of the universality of the Catholic Church, a love and respect for the Roman Pontiff and an appreciation for the City where Saint Peter, Saint Paul and countless Christian martyrs have shed their blood for the Faith.
