Celestial mother, heavenly wisdom: 10 nuggets of wisdom from the saints on the Solemnity of the Assumption

Updated: Dec 21, 2024

We have a mother in Heaven! Preserved from the stain of original sin, Mary was assumed into Heaven body and soul. Now there, she intercedes for her children and the Church, raining graces down from the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. What a gift! What a blessing! Get to know our heavenly mother a bit better with some nuggets of wisdom from the saints - and soon-to-be saints! - on this feast day when we honor our Blessed Mother!

“The world being unworthy to receive the son of God directly from the hands of the Father, he gave his son to Mary for the world to receive him from her.” St. Augustine
“Be not discouraged, but have recourse to Mary in all your necessities. Call her to your assistance, for such is the divine Will that she should help in every kind of necessity.” St. Basil the Great
“Through [Mary], as through a pure crystal, your mercy was passed on to us. Through her, man became pleasing to God; Through her, streams of grace flowed down upon us.” St. Faustina
“So your strength is failing you? Why don’t you tell your mother about it?…Mother! Call [Mary] with a loud voice. She is listening to you…and you will find yourself with added strength for the new battle.” St. Josemaria Escrivá
“Let us live as the Blessed Virgin lived: loving God only, desiring God only, trying to please God only in all that we do.” St. John Vianney
“In trial or difficulty I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear.” St. Therese of Lisieux
“From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s Will in all things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ her Son and the Son of God!” St. John Paul II
“Men do not fear a powerful hostile army as the powers of hell fear the name and protection of Mary.” St. Bonaventure
“O my Mother, it is to your heart that I come to lay down the anguish of my heart; it is there that I draw strength and courage.” St. Bernadette
“The Virgin Mary…as his mother, intercedes for us more than anyone else.” Bl. Carlo Acutis
