Faith, history and community: Mount Olivet to host Nights at the Cemetery this Fall

Updated: Oct 9, 2024

In a unique blend of faith, history and community, the Night at the Cemetery events presented by Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services (CFCS) Colorado offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity for reflection and connection. The Nights at the Cemetery, geared towards middle and high school students, and the Brew Nights at the Cemetery, tailored to adults 21+, are faith-filled opportunities to tour Mount Olivet’s grounds, learn more about the saints of the past in an engaging way and gather in community with refreshments provided. Set against the serene backdrop of our historic cemeteries, these events invite the faithful to engage in a spiritual journey that honors those who have gone before us and our enduring faith in Jesus’ resurrection.

A Historical Reflection

The Night at the Cemetery events are more than just a walk through hallowed grounds; they are an invitation to delve into the rich tapestry of Catholic history and heritage. Each event is thoughtfully designed to illuminate the lives of notable figures interred in our cemeteries, providing a deeper understanding of their contributions to our faith and community. As attendees stroll through these sacred spaces, fascinating stories of saints, clergy and laypeople who have left an indelible mark on our Church will abound. This historical reflection will educate and inspire a greater appreciation for the rich tradition that has shaped our local Catholic community.

A Spiritual Journey

At the heart of these events is a profound spiritual experience. The cemetery, often viewed merely as a place of rest, is transformed into a living testament to the Catholic belief in the communion of saints and the promise of eternal life. By participating in the Nights at the Cemetery, you engage in a form of pilgrimage that fosters a deeper connection with the saints and our spiritual ancestors. Mass offered at Mount Olivet’s Gallagher Chapel (weather permitting) invites attendees to pray together as one Church: triumphant in Heaven, suffering in Purgatory and militant here on earth.

Faith-filled Community

Beyond the opportunity to engage with the faith-filled history of our local Church, middle and high schoolers and adults are invited to come together in community. The events fall squarely within CFCS’ mission to build up the local Catholic community and to fill the void of loss with faith. Throughout the year, CFCS offers various community-based support programs, such as grief support groups, free burial to those without means and the Precious Lives ministry, which accompanies families through the difficult loss of a child at birth or in pregnancy. The Night at the Cemetery events promise to be moving experiences that blend historical insight, spiritual enrichment and communal fellowship.
