Enter into the Jubilee with reflections from St. Therese of Lisieux and Dr. Christopher West
There's much to be excited about at the beginning of the New Year. What will 2025 bring? What does God have in store for us?
As this Jubilee Year of Hope kicks off, we’re reminded of the great virtue of hope, which points our eyes to Heaven and the things of God. Even amid great challenges in our world, there is much to be hopeful for as this celebration begins.
To help the faithful enter into this powerful year of hope-filled prayer, pilgrimage and spiritual growth, the St. John Vianney Theological Seminary Lay Division is preparing a number of lectures, courses and days of reflection not to be missed!
First, on Monday, January 20, the Lay Division will host a free lecture on the Roman Jubilee, diving into the celebration's long history and theology. Dr. Christopher West, known for his work on the Theology of the Body, will explore all things Jubilee: the history, the ancient practice of pilgrimage, indulgences and the holy sites of Rome.
Then, on Friday, January 31, the faithful will spend the day reflecting with St. Therese of Lisieux and her “Little Way.” The spiritual insight offered by the saintly nun has resounded through the ages and continues to inspire pilgrims of hope seeking deeper union with God. Through her “Little Way,” attendees will find new ways to draw nearer to God with a more profound hope and trust in him.
“This lecture and the day of reflection will be a perfect opportunity to prepare for the Jubilee Year of Hope in 2025,” said Daniel Campbell, director of the St. John Vianney Theological Seminary Lay Division. “We’re excited to welcome Dr. Christopher West to the Lay Division for the free lecture on the Roman Jubilee, its history, the ancient practice of pilgrimage, indulgences and the holy sites of Rome. Then, at the end of January, the day of reflection focusing on St. Therese’s ‘Little Way’ will give attendees the chance to deepen their hope-filled relationship with God through Therese’s age-old spiritual wisdom. I encourage everyone to consider attending either or both to enter into the Jubilee Year with hearts on fire!”
