There’s been a lot of talk about “apostolic mission” in the Archdiocese of Denver over the last two years. But what exactly does that mean?
One of the biggest sources of inspiration for this move from “maintenance to mission” is the book From Christendom to Apostolic Mission, published by the University of Mary. Msgr. James Shea, who serves as president of the University of Mary, had a large hand in the writing of that book, and he’ll be at St. Vincent de Paul Parish this Thursday, Oct. 6, to explore what it means to be on mission in an apostolic age.
“In an apostolic time, every Christian is called to be a missionary and needs a missionary strategy,” Msgr. Shea wrote in a Denver Catholic article last year. “As we seize the opportunities of our time, we will want to pay attention to both of these apostolic tasks: that of building a strong Christian counterculture and that of embracing the call to be missionaries.”
