What better way to celebrate the feast of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini than to spend time at the Cabrini Shrine in Golden?
To mark the occasion, the Shrine welcomed pilgrims for a midday Mass in their newly renovated chapel. After years of hoping and planning, and months of construction, the little slice of Heaven is nearing completion.
The beautiful new chapel, designed by Integration Design Group and built by Horizon West, raises hearts and minds to the Lord and his Sacred Heart, who is prominently featured in the central mosaic, and to whom Mother Cabrini devoted her life.
Indeed, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is well-represented at the Shrine: from the first turn on the road to the Shrine when one notices a placard with the Sacred Heart of Jesus on it, to the massive Sacred Heart statue atop the hill, to a smaller statue outside of the chapel.
“There’s something significant about Mother’s love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus,” Fr. John Lager, O.F.M. Cap. said in his homily, noting that the order of sisters she founded, the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, was even named for the Jesus’ heart.
“The whole purpose is to know that it is by that powerful heart that was broken, wounded and worn out that the real gift of life and the gift of love pervaded her own heart and life in order to allow her to do the things that she did,” Fr. Lager continued. “Often, she would write words about the heart in which she would say, ‘Lord, make my heart as wide as the universe.’ Again, she would say, ‘Jesus, carve your heart into mine, and make your Heart known to all the world.”
The Cabrini Shrine invites all those devoted to St. Frances Xavier Cabrini to find spiritual solace and prayerful refuge on the grounds. This week, known as Cabrini Week at the Shrine, features various events: the annual Mother Cabrini Shrine Gala on Friday evening, and the rededication of the new chapel on Saturday afternoon.
