“I encourage all Catholics of the archdiocese to join me in fervent prayer and witness ahead of the election this November. May the Lord Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, illumine our hearts, that we might form our consciences well, advocate for Truth and continue to foster a culture of life that honors each human being from the moment of conception to natural death.” Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila
The power of prayer is real and ought not be underestimated. St. John Chrysostom said as much when he wrote:
“The potency of prayer has subdued the strength of fire; it has bridled the rage of lions, hushed anarchy to rest, extinguished wars, appeased the elements, expelled demons, burst the chains of death, expanded the gates of heaven, assuaged diseases, repelled frauds, rescued cities from destruction, stayed the sun in its course and arrested the progress of the thunderbolt.”
Of course, even as we pray, we place ourselves in God’s hands, trusting in him and his mysterious will. Though we may not see the fruits of our prayer, we trust that it is no less effective in the divine economy.
This Saturday, November 2, pro-lifers from across Colorado will gather in peaceful prayer and witness with Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila to intercede for life and foster a culture of life, especially during the elections next Tuesday, November 5.
The call to pray and witness comes at a dire moment in Colorado, as voters will decide on Amendment 79, the dangerous and radical state constitutional amendment that would provide a so-called “right to abortion.” The amendment would ban parental notification for minors seeking abortion, meaning parents would be unaware their 15-year-old daughter had an abortion. It would also allow for late-term abortion, even on healthy babies and healthy mothers, up to the ninth month. The amendment would also repeal the constitutional ban on taxpayer funding for abortion, clearing the way for the pro-abortion state legislature to allocate millions of taxpayer money to abortions for in and out-of-state women.
In his open letter to Catholics across Colorado, Archbishop Aquila exhorted the faithful to vote against the dangerous amendment.
“As a community, we must stand together to protect the most vulnerable among us and ensure that our laws reflect respect for life, parental rights and the truth that life is a gift. Every Catholic is called by God to be pro-life. I urge you to consider this amendment’s grave implications and join me in opposing it,” he said.
In short, Archbishop Aquila recently added while speaking on the Dan Caplis Show, it is imperative we defend the dignity of human life from conception, otherwise, we will miss the mark on every other issue.
“It’s important that we return to the dignity of human life, because if we do not have it from the very beginning, we are going to hedge in every other way on human life and all the issues,” he commented.
As the election approaches next week, Archbishop Aquila invites faithful from across Colorado to join him in prayer, procession and witness for life in the annual Eucharistic Procession around Planned Parenthood in Denver on Saturday, November 2.
“I encourage all Catholics of the archdiocese to join me in fervent prayer and witness ahead of the election this November,” Archbishop Aquila said. “May the Lord Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, illumine our hearts, that we might form our consciences well, advocate for Truth and continue to foster a culture of life that honors each human being from the moment of conception to natural death.”
