As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week here in the Archdiocese of Denver and across the nation, Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila has expressed gratitude to God for Catholic schools and their critical mission of forming disciples. Read his full statement below:
“As I reflect on Catholic Schools Week this year, my heart is filled with gratitude to the Father for the Catholic schools in our archdiocese. They continually shine Jesus’ light into the hearts and minds of our children.
“Over the last four years, our Catholic schools have taken up an extensive mission and curriculum renewal. Each school has been asked to take up the Church’s charter for education. Through human pedagogical methods and timeless curricula from the Church’s intellectual tradition the student is led to encounter Jesus Christ, to become his disciple. Thus, the student discovers the answers to the longings of the human heart, made for God, and finds meaning and joy in life. I am grateful to be on this journey with the teachers in our schools as they provide this transformative education. They work tirelessly to pass on the wonder of the intelligibility of the world, to live a life out of a sacramental imagination, to discover the students’ identity found in knowing the human story through history with a biblical worldview, and, to share the fulfillment of a life lived in friendship with Jesus Christ. ”
