We are delighted to introduce John Magee as the new Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Denver, a role crucial in managing the diocese's administrative affairs and official records. Please join us in welcoming a dynamic and dedicated individual whose journey to this esteemed position is as inspiring as it is unique.
A Journey from Ireland to Denver
Born and raised in the lush landscapes of Ireland, our new Chancellor's path has been deeply intertwined with the Catholic faith.
"I was born and raised in Ireland and came to the States to study at Franciscan University of Steubenville," Magee shared. This pivotal decision began a journey that would span decades and continents. After graduating from Franciscan University, he engaged in various roles within university and Catholic entities, including
Franciscan University, Ave Maria University and the University of Dallas. His unwavering commitment to aligning his professional life with his faith is evident in every step he has taken.
Magee’s connection to Denver dates back to the summer of 1993, when he first visited the United States to see his sister studying in Washington, D.C.
"On my first visit to the States, I watched World Youth Day (WYD) in Denver. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that some 30 years later, I would become the Chancellor of the Archdiocese," he reflected.
Having lived in Denver for over a decade, Magee feels a deep sense of homecoming in taking on this new role. Encouraged by a friend working within the Archdiocese and guided by discernment, faith and, of course, the Lord, he embraced the opportunity to serve.
Why the Archdiocese of Denver?
Magee's enthusiasm was palpable when asked why he chose the Archdiocese of Denver.
"The Archdiocese of Denver has rightly earned a reputation throughout the past decades in America and beyond as a dynamically alive place," he notes. From the fruits of WYD 1993 to the current leadership of Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila, Denver has been a beacon for successful ecclesial and lay ministries. “What excites me most is engaging in an 'incarnational' manner the mission of the Archdiocese, 'So that in Jesus Christ all might be rescued and have abundant life, for the glory of the Father.'"
Magee emphasized the need for joyful disciples and witnesses of hope in today's world and expressed eagerness to collaborate with religious, lay faithful and people of good will within the archdiocese.
"There has been so much accomplished, and there is so much more to be realized," he says, brimming with optimism for the future.
Hopes for the New Mission
As Magee embarks on his new mission, the new Chancellor's hopes are centered on approachability, service and accompaniment.
"I hope to be a person whom people can approach and engage in whatever matter is at hand," he shared. His vision is to be a resource for those seeking guidance and support on their spiritual journey. "I am here to serve however and whenever called to do so."
Warm Welcome
In welcoming our new Chancellor, we celebrate John’s impressive background, commitment to the faith and the promising future he envisions for the Archdiocese of Denver. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of his leadership and the continued growth and vibrancy of our community.
“I am truly grateful to Archbishop Aquila, Father Dollins, Dave Uebbing and the entire leadership team for this invitation to ‘cast out into the deep’ and serve the Archdiocese as the Chancellor. I hope that I will be a point of reference and support and together we can fulfill the great mission, "So that in Jesus Christ all might be rescued and have abundant life, for the glory of the Father,’” he concluded.
