In a joyous moment for both the Carmelite Order and the nation, three local Carmelite priests have proudly taken their oath of allegiance and become American citizens. This landmark achievement not only marks a significant milestone in their personal journeys but also celebrates the rich tapestry of diversity that strengthens our country. Father Rohan Miranda, Father Israel Gonsalves and Father Ivan Monteiro, who recently departed St. Thomas More Parish in Centennial, have dedicated their lives to serving God and their communities. Their journey to citizenship was not merely a formality but a testament to their profound dedication to their faith and their love for the United States. Each priest has made invaluable contributions to their local communities through their pastoral work and charity. "I am blessed and excited to be a US citizen," Father Miranda shared with the Denver Catholic. "It is a great privilege and honor after having a green card and waiting for almost six and a half years." “From the time I entered in the United States, I have experienced God’s unconditional love through the people of America. God bless the people of America," Father Gonsalves said, reflecting on his journey towards citizenship. "We've received lots of encouragement from the people at St. Thomas More to go for citizenship," he continued. "I will tell you frankly that I’ve not seenGod but I’ve experienced God’s generosity, kindness, goodness, happiness and providence over the people of America. In this ceremony, God was there for us. Today I’m thrilled. Through them we see and experience God. Let’s pray for our country. "We three Carmelites are grateful to the Archdiocese of Denver and the whole Discalced Carmelite Order. We have no words. We are very grateful," Father Gonsalves said. The three priests' new status as American citizens reflects their deep-seated belief in the values of freedom, justice and opportunity that define this great nation. The Carmelite Order, known for its profound spirituality and service to others, has long been an integral part of the American religious landscape. Now, with these three priests officially joining the ranks of American citizens, their commitment to their new homeland is both celebrated and cherished. Their journey serves as a reminder of the beauty of embracing new beginnings while staying rooted in faith. Their story is a beacon of the harmonious blend of tradition and patriotism, enriching the American experience with their unique contributions and unwavering devotion.
